Design Engineer – UAV Systems
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop UAV mechanical and electromechanical systems using modern CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD).
- Own the creation of detailed 2D/3D drawings, assemblies, and complete BOMs.
- Perform simulations and design validation (FEA/CFD) to ensure structural and thermal performance.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, assembly, and maintenance.
- Work on payload mounts, airframes, motor mounts, and integration of propulsion and avionics systems.
- Coordinate with electronics, flight systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth integration and system-level reliability.
- Assist in prototype builds, testing setups, and iterative design feedback loops.
- Support flight testing, analyze performance data, and implement design improvements.
- Work from first principles to create robust, scalable, and modular designs.
- Evaluate and select materials and components suitable for lightweight, high-strength UAV applications (composites, polymers, aluminum, etc.).
- Stay updated with new tools, materials, manufacturing techniques (CNC, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.).
- Take full lifecycle ownership of designs—from concept through testing to production handover.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in product design and mechanical system development, preferably in aerospace, UAVs, or manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.) and experience creating assemblies and detailed drawings.
- Familiarity with FEA/CFD tools for structural/thermal validation.
- Knowledge of mechanical-electrical integration (e.g., housings, cable routing, thermal management).
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (3D printing, machining, molding, sheet metal, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills and solid foundation in mechanical fundamentals and materials science.
Bonus / Preferred Skills
- Experience designing UAV-specific components (airframes, mounts, enclosures, etc.).
- Knowledge of GD&T, DFM/DFT principles, and aerospace-grade materials.
- Exposure to flight testing and UAV performance analysis.
- Experience working in a fast-paced R&D or hardware startup environment.
- Familiarity with electronics packaging and wire harnessing.
Electronics Engineer – UAV Systems
Key Responsibilities
- Design, simulate, and develop PCBs for UAV subsystems including power distribution, sensor interfaces, and signal conditioning.
- Select and integrate MCUs, IMUs, GPS modules, telemetry systems, and other electronic components.
- Perform schematic capture, layout, and bring-up of electronic assemblies.
- Lead hardware debugging and system validation during both lab and flight testing.
- Develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers (preferably ARM Cortex-M, STM32).
- Integrate and optimize communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN) and sensor drivers.
- Design and optimize wireless communication systems (RF, Wi-Fi, Cellular, LoRa) for command, control, and telemetry.
- Collaborate with the mechanical team to integrate electronics into compact and rugged UAV platforms.
- Assist in wire harnessing, EMI/EMC considerations, and enclosure design inputs.
- Support flight testing, gather performance data, and implement iterative improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in electronics product development, preferably in UAV, robotics, or aerospace sectors.
- Strong grasp of analog/digital circuit design, embedded systems, and PCB layout.
- Proficient in C/C++, microcontroller programming, and basic embedded systems debugging.
- Familiar with PCB tools like Altium Designer, Eagle, or KiCAD.
- Solid understanding of power systems (battery management, DC-DC converters), signal integrity, and sensor integration.
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and lab tools.
Bonus / Preferred Skills
- Experience with UAV flight controllers (PX4, ArduPilot) and telemetry hardware.
- Knowledge of sensor fusion, IMU/GPS integration, or Kalman filtering.
- Familiarity with RTOS, low-power firmware optimization, or fault-tolerant systems.
- Exposure to scripting (e.g., Python) for automation, data logging, or hardware validation.
- Understanding of aerospace or UAV compliance and regulatory standards.
